Description:

Caregivers caring for people with major neurocognitive disorders experience chronic stress that has a negative impact on their mental health and quality of life. An important mechanism mediating the relationship between caregiving circumstances and the caregivers’ health and well-being is the cognitive process of repetitive negative thinking (RNP), which are a modifiable process negatively correlated with attentive presence. The research project APA – Aide présence attentive : Gestion des pensées négatives répétitives chez les proches aidants de personnes vivant avec un trouble neurocognitif majeur, will examine for the first time the intervention focused on repetitive negative thinking for caregivers. If successful, the intervention could form the basis of an innovative, widely available psychosocial support service, including for caregiver-caregiver dyads and professionals.

Conference objectives:

  • To become familiar with repetitive negative thinking and their harmful influence on caregivers.
  • To provide information on the “APA – Aide présence attentive” research project.
  • Invite collaboration and participation in the project.
